I whole heartedly believe that the record companies lost money because of the poor economy, bad business practices, and a shrinking exploitable consumer more so than because of mild p2p file swapping.
They see a way to control a method of distribution, and that ladies and gentalmen is their only intention here. They want to own the technology and the right to license its use to consumers at a substantical subscription rate.
So yes, I too *spit* on the RIAA.
