Ok, it is simple enough.

The important thing about background is RGB colors. They HAVE to be 0,0,0 if you don't want them to be seen. It is an absolute rule because even if you have 0,0,1 the background will show. All you have to do is to fill your background with 0,0,0 RGB color (absolute black). It is easiest to do in Photoshop since it has a tool to do it very fast.
These are the steps (skipping the obvious ones that include starting Photoshop, loading the picture, zooming in etc. ):

1 - Set the color to RGB 0,0,0 in the Color window (usually mid right window on screen).

2 - Select Paint Bucket tool (Hotkey K).

3 - Select options in navigator window (usually upper right corner of screen) and set the tolerance to something between 10-15. You could set it as high as long as it doesn't start filling more then just black background (if you set it to something like 30 it usually fills part of the ship with black). The exact number depends on the picture, of course, so YOU will need to find the highest tolerance that doesn't mess your picture.
The other options are as default (normal fill, 100% opacity).

4 - The final step. Just click on the background with the paint bucket. Don't forget to save after all is done .

You can check the background RGB color if you use the info menu in the navigator window (upper right). That is all . It took me about 2 minutes to get through Solarion shipset and do this.
