Now there is a good example of how an idea can mutate and take on a life of it own..

You mention 'post-cards' and 'trading-cards',.. I mention a trading-card game like Magic the Gathering,.. You mention it's a good idea and say a Board Game would be interesting.

hmmm, for postcards to Board games in 4 easy steps. LOL

My train of thought is more on the MTG-ish card game.

The idea is each player would have to defend his home planet. there would be attack cards (ships) and 'resource' cards that are needed to bring them into play. conditional modifiers like nebulas, solar flares, etc. there could also be 'race' cards that give the player 'global' bonuses (like a mining race where each resource card produces +1 resource.) Ship cards can be made stronger by adding engine boosts, shields, firepower etc. Players attack each other's planets and the defending player has to use his own ships to defend. If a player has no ships then his home planet is hit for damage.

etc, etc... Feel free to add more ideas, this is jst the basics in a nutshell. The only thing to keep in mind is to stay with stuff already in SE. don't invent new stuff. THe fun will be in how we use what is available, not in the infinate possabilities of what can be done. We'll have the possability to 'mod' the game after the basic units are done.

.. you're serve..
