Actually... satellites are pretty big. They are like miniature, automated space stations, afterall. These are not at all like modern day communications satellites. If they were, you would not be able to mount large ship-class weapons systems on them.
If you ever watched Babylon 5, think of those defense satellites in orbit of Earth. They are relatively massive structures, much, much larger than fighters, equal in size to a lot of ships.
