anything that you think would be a good size for the screen rez of choice. (ie: If you want an extreme closeup of the ship in the foreground, then it can even be rendered bigger than the final screen rez. I would crop what I needed.)
I'm thinking that these 'montages' would be a colaberation, so the ship builder would be free to render the ship at whatever size he/she thinks would look good. Also, the 'angle' of the view is not limited to the 'standard' iso type perspective in se4. If you would like to have a ship heading towards a planet and seen from the rear then that's an option too.
Bottom line, I'll leave that part of the decision to you ship builders. I'll take creative licence for the backgrounds though.

Edit: I can handle prety much any format (except if it's mac specific) So bmp, jpg, png whatever is easiest for you.
