Default Re: Gallipoli all over again.

Dieppe achieved its higher goals. While the raid itself was a failure due to the loss of life. It's ultimate goals were achieved. Thus the raid can be seen as a sucess. And if your going to just blame the British you must also add in the Canadian command who were itching to get into a good fight, and this goes all the way to the top (M-K)

The 1916 campaign in turkey was flawed from the get go. It would never have succedded. Geography and Defence would have beaten even the soundest of plans. It was just a poor location for an offence. And logistics proove this as well. Just look at the amount of water that a allied soldier received each day.

Just opinions.

Such as why does the whole world know about Erwin Rommel ?

In reality he was a minor general whos only success came after Battle of Beda Fomm when the british weakened the standing strenght to help with greece. He did not understand modern fighting from a area commander at all. Logistics were not understood at all. To be a quarter master under Rommel would have been very frustrating. His afrika corps used more supplies in a day than the big american corps in 1944. And with his level of consumption vs what was in storage and being delivered per day. Failure was the only outcome.

And it was.

I always felt that the British and Americans built up legends such as Rommel to cover up for the inferior equiptment they used against the Germans.
Maybe one day i will write a book about it to proove my point.
