Guess what prices will be in 5 years - 300 terabyte for 100$ ? Of course, Windows 3000 will need at least 20 gig HD space then...
My first hard drive I have seen was a small cabinet about 1 m high and 60x60cm in size. 40MB. Belonging a "mainframe server" with 32 Users connected to it, 2 processors with 64kB RAM each - filling several wardrobe-sized cabinets. Price something with 6 figures. Well, about 30 years ago...
Technical development in this area has really been breathtaking, faster than in any other area before. I see signs of slowing down, but not really an end. |
