I notice the game moves faster when my modem is on. Some people say it goes faster when some sound programs are on also. It also goes very slow for me when I have been using my modem and then turn it off and start the game without restarting the computer. So I can run the game at 3 different speeds depending on the state of my modem

Edit: I just tried it with my new computer (the old one died Last month
) with a hardware modem instead of a "Winmodem" it doesn't seem to affect the speed of the game so that problem doesn't happen to me anymore. Either that or the latest patch fixed the problem. Without replacing my old motherboard, and/or CPU I can't try it to see if it was the patch or better modem that fixed the problem.
