Si vis pacem, Para bellum. It had to be done. Are the lives of some unknown aliens more important than the lives of your citizens of the empire?
They were already done for. You only helped them to a quick and relatively painless and radioactive death.

I am playing a Stock Game of SEIV, nothing like the plain SEIV Gold to get you going, and well one of my long time Neutral allies sends me a request for Trate and Research alliance. I responded by breaking our treaty and having already positioned my fleet over their Home World I attack.
I feel horrible as they resisted my ground troops and ultimately my fleet had to obliterate the planet.
All they wanted to be was good friends, and I glass their Home World.
I feel horrible now.
