after you dl'd the ones on the cd, you need to upgrade the mods to their newest Versions. TDM I believe is up to 3.4 and P&N is up there the same as all the rest. You will need these to play PBW games and also to give you a better game in SP play. Most of the upgrades can be found at spaceempires.net or on some of the other links.
