Units that can be deployed in space may be scrapped if they are deployed in the presence of a space yard. So, satellites and fighters may be scrapped by taking the trouble to deploy them. Weapon Platforms don't deploy too well.
So, there's no way to scrap them currently. It's very annoying to have to heave your weapon platforms into space to make room for the next generation technology. We hope for a change in game mechanics to deal with this problem one day.
