Default Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game

Hi all,

looks like it is time to set a deadline for starting the game, preferably as soon as possible.

How do you feel about this weekend? Thecyclemania may be able to send me his race file on Sunday (Monday latest), so I would like to start as soon as it is in.

All players are encouraged to send in their *.emp file as soon as possible. So far I have received the files from Greg, Regul, Galina, Ferendra, Garvoid (Jim) and spacebas (David).

Looks like we will be about a dozen players, so I think we should go without computer empires.

Regarding the game settings Greg made some good points I wish to add here:

-Number of Systems = [10 * # of Players]
While I think it is a good idea which would give us a bit of breathing space before the fur begins to fly, I feel a bit concerned about possible stability problems if fiddling at the wrong point (Regul voiced this and I think he has a point there). I will take a look at the number of players and the number of systems in that file, but I think we can live with it if there are only 8 systems per player or so, too.

-Quad Type: Spiral Arm (Most diversity of planet types)
Fine with me, so far the most voices preferred this one (actually I see only two Posts, Regul's and Greg's, and both agree there).

- No Computer Players (regardless of how many players are in, no neutrals or enemy AI empires)
As I wrote above I think adding them would be a bit too much anyway. We have enough players in the game as it is.

-Victory Conditions:
-Peace: 2.5 years (25 turns)
-Victory conditions only apply after: 2.5 years (25 turns)

This is the only suggestion for Victory Conditions that I received, so if there are no objections they will stand.

-Game Version: 1.11 with NO edited technology, just play as it stands.

Actually I took it for granted that we play without edited stuff, but to make it clear:
Only the 'official' components and stuff.

Since the AI will take over in case of missed turn submissions I think we should allow custom AI scripts (those nifty text files) for the player empires (of course only for everyone's own empire). These fall under race generation as I see it.

Hmmm, there is still the question about visibility of scores during the game (only own, own and allied, all). Any voices about this? So far there is Regul's opinion (own and allied) and mine (only own score). Any more votes?

Well, my hand feels a bit cramped now, so I better stop abusing my keyboard...

Cheers,

Dime
