Resident Alien is on a distinguished road
Default Re: People, please flame me!

What game start parameters did you use?

To get more action experiment with map size, number of starting races, number of starting planets and starting resources.

Start test maps with "all systems seen" and "omnipresent view" and take and take a look at the distribution. Find one that looks good and then use it for your normal game start.

A small map, high number of computer players and 5 or 10 starting planets should be fun Tune to find your best combination. I just tried this one to see what it looked like and got a map with approximately 35 systems, 11 x 5 planet races and 5 x 1 planet races. 16 players in 35 systems, 1 or 2 systems per player, many next to each other for early attacking.

One of the games I am running sounds similar to yours. It was my first full SE4 game when the CD arrived so I wanted a quiet start to try things out. I have Medium Size, Low number of computer players, medium starting tech, 3 starting planets. There are 4 races, only one of which is expanding and is of similar size to mine. We started trade and got to mill alliance. Then that collapsed and we have been at war for many years. I am building up my tech, fleets and resources for the final battle. The other 2 races are way behind and will be crushed later.

I have encountered one large race, whose Berserker Genocidal tendencies has not prevented them from opening their arms to me and welcoming all my culture's Fizzy Whizzies in trade. I have also encountered three "single-system" races, none of which are doing much of anything. So, I spend my turns waiting and waiting for my ships to get to their destinations, doing research, and fighting with the interface (probably just needs a little time). I have no real combat opportunities, and to read many of the Posts on the forum, the AI is not going to put up much of fight anyways. What do I have to look forward to???? Why am I playing?
