Re: Dune
The only thing I like in the new Version is that it was longer, and they explore the "fremen" world more in that Version than in the original one.
But the actors were bad as hell. The Emperor acts like a fag (no offense), Paul is a wimp, Jessica was really boring, his small sister too. Baron Harkonen was not intimidating at all. The only character that was more fun was "Faith", the guy that replace Sting. At least, he knew how to kick a little and not just grin and jump around.
The figth was still cheasy as hell. Paul Muadib is supposed to be able to defeat any Fremen single handed. Faith is supposed to be an "animal", a killing machine or whatever. The Director should watch a few Hong Kong movie, he would see what a cool fight looks like with a knife, or even bare-handed. You guys like "The Matrix" ? The directors (Wachowski brothers) are huge fan of Hong Kong action movies. You think the action scenes were cool in the Matrix ? That's because Woo-ping Yuen was involved in it. He's one of the best Kung Fu choreographer there is.
Go rent "Fist of Legends" with Jet Li and you'll know what a cool fight looks like.
Anyway, back to Dune.
Of course the special effects were amazing. Especially the cargo ships (the cylinder). They were awesome. The worms were cool too.
But bad acting is still bad acting.
I think I also prefer the desert suit from the original movie better. All black with a tube in the nose. The new one are really "low budget". A cape and a hospital breathing mask. I guess all the budget went to the animated effects.
Of course, both movie are nott even close to the book. As it should be.
