So, if you guys want to join the SE4 chat channel on IRC, follow these instructions:
1) Download an IRC client program (such as Trillian from
http://www.trillian.cc which is what I use).
2) You need to connect to any random gamesnet.net server, and join the channel #SE4 (type "/join #SE4").
If you want to use Trillian, then continue reading this. If not, then you suck.
Seriously though, I'd have to figure it out, and it would be easier if you use Trillian (which, incidentally, can connect to MSN IM, AIM/AOL, ICQ and Yahoo! all in one ad-free program).
3) Install Trillian wherever you would like. When installing it, it asks you for your user info for all of the aforementioned chat networks. If you have them, you can enter them in. Otherwise, just hit next.
4) Once installed, look in the main Buddy window (the big one that opens to the right automatically). Locate the row of 5 icons. Clicking on each of these will bring up a list of options for each chat network. Locate the IRC button and click on it. Select Connection Manager.
5) In the bottom left portion of the Connection Manager window, there is a large box entitled Internet Chat Relay (which is what IRC stands for, btw). It contains a scroll list of various servers. Find Gamesnet and click on it.
5a) Select a Random server. Either USEast or USWest will do.
6) Now look in the bottom right, where there is another boxed area. It has 3 tabs. The left and default tab is Personal Information. Enter a Nickname, Alternate, Username and User information. User information can just be a copy of your nickname.
7) Click on the button that says Set nick on all servers.
8) Don't touch the following:
--a) Identd tab.
--b) The two boxes above the Personal Information box. They will be done automatically.
9) Now, click on the Connect button in the top right corner.
10) A new window will pop up, signifying that you are connected to the Gamesnet server network. In the chat box, type in: /join #SE4
