Mephisto, I'll try and clarify what I meant,,,

the ball must be in front of you when attacking the goal and your in the box, or you must have either the ball or a defender between you and the goal, so if there is no ball or defender in front of yu then you are off sides, in addition the opposing side gets a penalty kick from location of the off side penalty,This all pertains when the attacker is in the box.

Therefore, If you are driving on opposing goal and are called off sides in the box, you loose the ball, defender gets penalty kick which in turn sends it back down field towards your goal. Sooo, the evaluation, don't get in front of the ball when in the box or you lose the ball....

If not for the rule, it would be an unfair advantage on the attacker vs goalie as he could have teammates swarm around in front of or box in etc the defending goalie, thus being unable to properly defend his/her goal.
