Racial traits eh? Well Nano-Tech has been tried in a mod. Worked ok if a bit too powerful. Here is some of my ideas: Truely organic (all ships etc are truely alive), Harmonic race (sound wave weapons), Phased race (all tech slightly out of phase, ie. cloaks and shield piercing weapons abound
), Undead (we need space zombies, working on this race myself but they would be fun), Mystical race (think b5 Technomages), Military Trait (use 'trained crew componants', 'command Posts' that enhance ground combat, REAL boarding parties and Transporters for them etc.). Maybe expand the religious tech to include worshipping different gods(war, peace, science etc.)
