I think quite similar, except that it probably won't ship with 6 major storylines. Starfury is in 3D, so the combat might be a bit more difficult.
EV:N is a great game; I can recommend it to anybody here who waits for Starfury. There's a windows port available, and the shareware Version is good for 30 days. You only miss out a few ships and the ability to capture enemy vessels.
