Escort Ships and Satellites can be spawned just like fighters if you want to mod it that way.
The ships would be hard to do right, but the sats could be quite nice. Mix some code from the sats and fighters, and put them up for sale. Then get a fighter bay, and start deploying sats. They'll be recoverable too.
