Its been my experience that rings of regeneration do not heal afflictions, whether the affliction was acquired before or after the ring was equipped. Is it possible that the healing behavior you attibuted to the rings was actually due to unicorns? Have you seen it with commanders from nations other than Man?
I haven't seen it with Hildegard, who rides a unicorn and is Ulmish. Can't think of anyone else right now... Maybe it is due to unicorns, but in the Bernlad description it attributes his regenerative abilities to his armour, for whatever that's worth.

I think I have seen this effect before with non-unicorn commanders too, but I'm not 100% positive about this. Perhaps one of the devs can speak to this issue?

BTW, since I posted Last Rhianne has managed to kill another 2 gods! She killed a manticore and a prince of death. Now her defense is a shocking 44 - I think she should vie for godhood.

The regeneration of Bernlad is intrinisc. All units riding unicorns recovers from afflictions.
