There are at least 2 other means to heal afflictions:
The Faery Queen now can heal troops like a priestess - although you need Conjuration 8 and a good nature mage.
The Tien Ch'i hero Ho Hsien-Ku can also heal afflictions. And she's immortal to boot! That certainly makes her the most valuable hero in the game.
