As Jotunheim against Ermor (assuming large undead armies), I would forget about hiring giants until I had enough priests - at least one per border province, preferably 2-4 or more for taking on a major Ermor army. Have the troops hold their position, to maximize the time that you can banish.

I'm not trying to claim myself too much of an expert. But I don't even think the Dom 1 experts are having a very easy time with the AIs.

For example, to me, it's more that I've known about the limitations of the the AIs and not really excited about beating them. I could defeat the AIs in most situations but it's not really the forcus . Even for me, there are settings in which the AIs could give me some very hard time, e.g., a crowded map with impossible AIs and indie of 5 to 6.
