Well it certainly limits one's options! But it'd let you concentrate elsewhere, or at least catch up on your reading (i.e., do a lot of research). I've been tempted, for the variety, but haven't tried it yet.
I have played with pretenders who rarely moved, and even with tough pretenders, I usually have them spend most of their time not fighting except when needed. They're very valuable as researchers, spell casters, item forgers, and especially (for mages with many magical disciplines) as special site finders.
