I'm playing on a laptop with Radeon mobility video card. Had frame rate about 3 per second with drivers supplied by my laptop's manufacturer. Went to that omegacorner site mentioned by Pocus, installed new driver, FPS is up to 'bout 60.
Sure Windows makes a lot of fuss about how the drivers I installed are not 'Windows approved', but I haven't had any problems so far.
There was also a switch that disabled all terrain and such which helped a lot while having old drivers, but I don't remember what it was... -x?
