Re the netstat: I can see why you would think that would be the solution. I actually wrote the entire script to do it, and it was first when I attempted to use it I was shown the error of my ways. The problem is that the apache server runs under restricted priviledges, for obvious reasons. One of the things it cannot do is access /proc/net, which is the source of the netstat info. Thinking about the info that resides in /proc/net, I think that this is a good thing
