No. But fatigue in excess of 200 (whatever causes it) will do health damage, which may cause afflictions and/or death.

They did not appear to be hit by anything so was this due to high fatigue?

Yes. Communion masters usually don't mind exhausting their slaves past the 200 fatigue mark.
