Yeah, Miasma is a little limiting, since any unit that is not undead, lifeless, or cold-blooded will die horribly of nasty diseases. Maybe you can cast Twiceborn on your indy mages, so when they bite it they'll come back as Wight Mages or Lichcraft(how DOES that spell work?) and be immune. Not to mention no longer require upkeep.
