Magic resistance negates, so it depends totally on the MR of the target. The only other way that I know of for BE Ermor to get an unholy 4 priest is the sword of injustice.
It's for Apostacy, right? Then, bar communion you can also try:
- Ring of Wizardry.
- Crystal Shield.
- Power of the Spheres.
- Suiciding an heroic prophet, and calling him back with Ritual of Rebirth after you've appointed his successor.
BTW, instead of gaining extra unholy levels you can try grabing extra death magic with Twiceborn'ed candidates to 'suicide' missions - a bargain at 10 death gems when compared to empowerment. And I'm not even talking about the benefit of having a tougher, upkeep-free mage. ;-)
