If I already have GoH up (and I do in this game), would you still recommend bagging it? I mean if I get aquatic stationaries who will die on land anyhow, blech. But if I get Vastnesses... whoo hoo!

It's not worth it: The Void Gate is dubious even for R'lyeh, and you have none of R'lyeh's advantages here. With a very high chance of going insane or being eaten, your mage will spend most of his time in the funny farm.
