Your position is logical nonsense. A rumour is, by definition, a premise that is in doubt. The full context of your "undoubtedly" remark is:

it's reasonable to expect that something of this sort has undoubtedly occurred.

... indicating that you are not in doubt that the premise (SC has died) is true.
