I don't know why, but I have seen the same thing - my burly CD pretender, when hitting "Attack Closest" in his script, racing backwards away from the enemy for a turn or two, and then finally turning towards the enemy. Weird, and potentially damaging, but not frequent enough to allow easy replication / bug fixing; also not probably not frequent enough to make it a priority fix.
