Actually, I've rarely seen Brits, Aussies, Canadians, et. al. screw-up writing English as often as I do my fellow Americans. Nor do I see non-English-speakers screw-up their own native language writing as frequently. I firmly believe that many (if not most) Americans, particularly those educated in the 80s and after, either just haven't gotten good educations in what masquerade as schools in this country (glorified day-care centers for adolescents), or are simply too uncaring about getting it right. People don't care enough about not appearing like ignorant country bumpkins. Witness our glorious president, who thinks it's chic to speak the language as if he never completed grade school. (I have to wonder how he ever made it into Yale with such atrocious English. No doubt his family bribed someone, as I certainly cannot see him having had good enough SAT scores.)
Well, that's enough ranting for one post. People butchering the language is a sore subject with me. Sorry.
