Gladiators (and only gladiators) disappear after one battle, but it does not seem as if that is what is going on here, unless the province you hire them in is attacked immediately after the recruitment.

I thought about that the first time, but it CANT be the case since you can ONLY recruit gladiators in a Fort, and even if the prov is attacked immediately, the Glads wont participate in battle, since they will be inside the fort.
Sounds like something weird is going on.
