Default What is the best way to make gunboats for SEIV

I want to add gunboats to the game but I'm not sure the best way to do it would be. They will be a seperate tech requiring medium fighter tech. I don't want them to be a seperate class of ship but rather an off shoot of fighters. They will be launched by gunboot bays. This is what I have in mind. Any suggestions? I was inspired by the Starfire series.
