Default Re: OT: The Things We Take for Granted....

Technology continues to climb but we are nearing the peak of many other things. I remember my great grandmother talking often about "when I was a child we didnt have", less so from my grandparents, hardly ever from my parents, and I feel very little need to say it to my children (except with technology of course). On the other hand, I hear more often "when I was a child we DID have" and I think that will be increasing in my kids to the grandkids, and them to their children which I might live to see.

For one thing, my table grace is along the line of "thank god for the variety of life which has given itself to my meal each day". Yes its rather druidic. But it serves to remind me and make me thankful that my meal includes so much. Foods from all over the world, any single part of it was at one time the ENTIRE diet of some group of people who were thankful of an ocassional change. We are unlikely to discover new foods now, but we are very likely to lose many. And thats just one of many areas which we may be telling our grandkids "I remember having..."
Be thankful for bananas, songbirds, water, and beef.
