Gaius scowled. "Of course not, everything is under control."
"Good, I expect your recruits to be ready for inspection tomorrow."
"Are we at war?"
"Mind your business."
"Senator, you call up every able bodied man in Elantria..."
"I said mind your business. Unless you want to be replaced."
"Of course not."
"Then ask less questions. Be ready for tomorrow's inspection."
Gaius waited until the Senator left, then spat on the floor. "Politicians...", he muttered. They had no idea the amount of training, discipline and time needed to raise such an army. The Last war was fought and won by men like himself, who sacrificed everything to turn weaklings into disciplined fighting men. Now all the Senators were interested in were parades and uniforms. Strange that only one Senator had visited him. Perhaps the expansion didn't have the support of the Senate.
Gaius shook his head. No, scheming and politics was best left to others. He knew how to fight, and how to train people to fight, and how to win fights. That was enough.
