The "soda water" Puke describes sounds like "seltzer" to me, used in mixed drinks and by Vaudeville comedians.

There's also the extremely nasty "tonic water", with quinine as the main flavoring, IIRC, but I don't remember that being carbonated.
Celine Dion is a French-Canadian singer who has been a huge success in the US recording industry. BTW, her musical genre is "pop".
My favorite carbonated beverage is birch beer, which is similar to root beer, but nearly impossible to find around here. (Despite the names, neither of these contain alcohol.)
