You can´t get more than 10 base in a given path. Adding boosters would raise maximum possible astral to 16(17 with crystal shield, not sure if it works). that would require a hag pretender, starshine cap, forbidden light, ring of wizardry, ring of sorcery and crystal coin.

edit: well don´t regard the above. you can still empower after you have level 10. you can even get more than 20 base that way.
