None of that matters, but I believe everything does normal damage, instead of not working (I'm not sure though).
Rate of fire, range, and damage past range 1 do not matter either. In short, only component size, cost, damage and hit points matter for troop weapons.
Actually, some special damages do matter: 4X damage to shields means X4 damage (Small Shield Depleter), so the same may hold true for other such damage types. Erh... except that Shield Depleters don't use that ability, so scratch that.
