Re: StarFire Mod v-Beta 2
StarFire and Imperial StarFire are both third edition. StarFire is just the tactical rules and Imperial StarFire is the Empire running rules. They made it into two rule books so those who only wanted to play the tactical combat level didn’t have to weed through page after page of empire rules to find one section.
I decided against renaming the mod and its components as that would take from the spirit of the game I was after. Sorry but I have never liked doing things that way, for me it has always been all or nothing!
I would love to see him try to sue Malfador. GSF is quickly sliding down the drain and StarFire may be dead but the concept behind it is not. The main developer (as noted in the link below) is working on an alternate version of StarFire and when it launches all of us die hard fans will just swap over to it.
I actually own a copy of the GSF rules, bought them when it was first released as I wanted to give this “update” a try. What I didn’t know till I got the books in hand was that this is not an update. It was a total redesign of the game and trounced any joy it had into hell. In my opinion (and you know what they say about opinions) GSF is a paper version of Space Empires and it certainly plays like it as well! Since I own every copy of Space Empires released why would I want to swap from the power of the computer to a pen and paper for the same effect?
Honestly one of my first thoughts after getting the GSF rules and reading them was how ironic this all seemed. StarFire inspired Space Empires and as far as I can tell Space Empires inspired GSF. Maybe it is just my very dry humor but that struck me as more than laughable!
