Default Re: OT: War Bill, write your congress......

Since we are quoting Romans, let us go back an have a look at a Greek. Plato (I believe) had some interesting things to say about how crisis situations could lead a democracy to elect a tyrant, feeling it was the best thing for them to do. When the crisis past, they found it was tough to get the powers they had given away back. Thus, the end of the democracy.

I would be interested to know the name of the Congresswoman who was so bold to stand and remind both the politicians and the people that one of the strengths of America is that it is a free and open society where the head of state is, and must be, accountable to the people. The 40 billion dollars voted to the effort is a lot of money. The legality of wire taps are being reviewed. Has America voted away some of it’s freedoms?

The crisis must be responded to, as quickly and as efficiently as possible. However, it must be done in a way which preserves the essential nature of America. Unity is good, but questioning is also good. America has many long and respected traditions to maintain, a real challenge in times of crisis.
