Just wondering, but what is small for you? I know I would call my university small, with 16,000 students downtown, and about as many in other buildings (most of the university isn't on a campus).
Socialising is even less developed here, since we don't really have that drinking part (smoking doesn't compare). It would just be much easier to make friends with the teachers than the students... but perhaps it's simply because students drop like flies.
