We need more variety in general. A race of squids would be a good tribute to the Gazurtoids of Starflight.
Heck, since a fan contribution doesn't have to worry so much about copyright restriction, why can't we actually have the Gazurtoids?
And why don't we have any insect races other than 'mantis/ant' creatures? (Klackon clones, basically.) There are all sorts of other possibilities. What about a race of 'ticks' who live off some sort of huge animal hosts? (A variant on the Que-Cappa perhaps, but more interesting than 'ants'...) What about a race of 'grubs' that don't finish their life-cycle for decades, doing all their 'civilization' activities in immature form and then reproducing only at the very end of their lives?
