There's actually a totally practical reason for not eating dogs (at least on a regular basis....): Calorie effeciency. Dogs are basically carnivores, so they eat other animals. Cows, on the other hand, are basically herbivoes, and just eat plants. Being closer to the plants, you get a better calorie efficiency off of cows than you do off of Dogs.
And before the vegitarians jump on me, meat's still the most personal time-effective method of intaking protien, although you can meet dietary needs strickly via plants.
