Personally, I stay away from 'Bleeding Edge' games that have uber sys requirements. Speed is not the end all of criteria for me. I can't afford to buy a new computer every year (or every 6 months) just to be in the 'Top 5%' of PC users.
The good thing, is that by the time I have a system that can run the game, the game will be in the bargain bin
lol, it's a win-win situation.
which reminds me, I should go back and read through my year 2000-2001 PC Gammer magazines to see what would be good on my current system.
