The Xurians are a rather unique race in that they never developed space travel on their own, but instead learned of it from an the crash wreckage of an unknown alien spaceship discovered on their homeworld. Being a highly adaptive & inquisitive race of reasonable technological capability, they worked hard at retro-engineering the downed alien ship's science & technology. They eventually developed their own versions of the discovered technologies, which they quickly used to start exploring and colonizing the nearest regions of their home space. Soon they expanded outward, and eventually colonized enough new worlds to form their own empire. Though relative newcomers to space, they have gained a huge jumpstart with the discovery of alien technology and have adapted rapidly.
