Sorry you lost all your work but we do provide a message at the top of the screen ( where all messages are displayed.....) that says about "EXIT"...

"Exit back to opening menu. CAUTION!! This cancels any purchasing!"

Most people this happens to only do it once. You're misfortune is you were setting up a large force and it hurts more. There was a suggestion made in the past that this should be a y/n but others complainted too many y/n's are a PITA so we added the warning
