"Keeping close enough" like "keeping alive" most times
With lower-than-average hitpoints and defense, and only medium armor at best this can turn out quite problematic with most mages.
Vans e.g. on the other hand are quite good at frying attackers (and the remnant of their bodyguards
) with Shock Wave, and are quite able to survive some rounds of melee combat unless very unlucky ..
