Your file might have the MS Paint XP file header (BM 6), which SE5 might like as little as SE4 did. Try resaving in another application, such as Paint.net or Irfanview.

Aaron really needs to fix this problem... make sure to send in the files and a bug report if this turns out to be the problem.
