Yeah, you better use the same version the host does to avoid problems.

You can use whichever version of Dom3 if you make a second copy of dom3.exe in your game-folder, rename it something like dom300.exe, and only afterwards run the patch. If the host in your game is still unpatched, just use the old version of the executable (i.e. dom300.exe) when playing your turns.
